This was looks
great, but is very time-consuming. Plus I beaded it every
time we went somewhere. Husband would drive, I would bead.
Vogue 2929.
The pattern comes with a long view only.
But, who can make something without altering?
Pattern
Description: Bias dress is floor length,
lined and has contrast panel, contrast knot, asymmetrical seams,
side slit, train, zipper and foundation with boning.
Pattern Sizing: Sizes
4-20
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once
you were done sewing with it? Yes and no. I altered it greatly,
so the parts I didn't alter looked very much like it. The other
parts . . .
Were the instructions easy to follow? Not easy, but do-able.
It's an advanced pattern, and asymmetrical, so that brings
challenges. But, the instructions are good.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I dislike that I can't use a pattern as is, but love this pattern. I
appreciate the flow and movement of the design.
Fabric
Used: Taffeta, velvet embossed taffeta and organza (for the
ruffles).
Pattern
Alterations or any design changes you made: Well, the dress is
long, but my daughter wanted it short. The hem has a train, but we
made an asymmetrical hem for interest. I added a ruffle to the top
of the bodice and to the hem. And I beaded everything! I also made
it the opposite way (knot is on viewers left, not on the right as
shown). You can barely see the plain (not embossed) midnite taffeta
under her hand on the right - shiny.
When I finished the dress, it needed something, so I added the
organza ruffle at the top and the hem. It was such an elegant touch.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I would like to make a long version for myself in red.
Conclusion: Wonderful dress. Great design. Not too hard to
put together, but does require a full foundation with boning, and a
lining. Lots of layers, but looks marvelous.
