SIMPLICITY 3673: Silk and Cotton Bottomweight

Simplicity 3673. You can view it here

Pattern Description: Dress or jumper with skirt variations in three lengths.

Pattern Sizing: Sizes 6-22.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. I made view A, but have also made view B.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. The belt is probably the hardest part. And making the seams line up on both sides of the zipper.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It's an easy pattern to cut out and sew. It requires very little fabric (1-3/8 yards) and very little time to make it. You can also wear it as a dress or as a jumper. Even those who don't look great in plaids can wear plaids in this style.

Fabric Used: Silk and bottom-weight cotton fabric with lycra.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Altered just for the person: short-waist, sway back, larger hips.
Also, I played around with some neat ideas I got from Sandra Betzina's "Designer Seam and Hem Finishes" DVD. I added some fancy stitch-work using embroidery threads - pink and turquoise (not together). And I added some silk covered buttons, using the same fabric as the bodice. I also added the large bias trim at the hem of the skirt, which seems to bring the whole look together.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have made this jumper/dress five times now, and will probably make it another five times. I have four daughters, and I sew for them often, so my patterns get well used!
I highly recommend this for everyone.

Conclusion: If you are a beginner, then ask questions of sewers if you need it. But, it's a cute dress, won't look "home-made," and begs for such neat additions and embellishments.

Same pattern, different fabric. A wool blend with lycra. I cut the bodice front on the bias and added a tab front. The buttons are covered with a lavender velvet (it was leftovers in my remnant bin for 4 years!). I covered belting, then added a silver buckle and a velvet-covered tab for the end of the belt. It needed something . . .

Same pattern. A wool blend. Again, the bodice front is on the bias. I used a strip of black suede in the center of the bodice front.

I used a red knit embossed with "snakeskin" of black, offwhite and gold - to cover the buttons, as piping around the neck and armholes, on each side of the suede tab, and to cover the belt. I love this jumper!

One more dress/jumper from the same pattern. Wool plaid embellished with red wool roving. Just something to make it a bit different. Worn with red shoes . . .
